Kids at Play: Building for Happiness
Join us in our mission to restore joy, dignity, and opportunity to children in developing countries through direct, efficient action.
What We Do
We, the Kids at Play foundation, visit orphanages in developing countries and determine what basic needs are not being met. After assessment we help reconstruct, renovate, build and maintain the orphanages. We are trying to motivate and involve local people as much as possible and try to place volunteers where we can.
Our key focus is to supply mandatory need to the key problems in an orphanage. For this reason you need to first assess the main problems. It is such a shame that so many funds around the world don’t end at where they are actually needed! Large organisations have logically too many layers in-between the donator and the people in need, wherefore funds end at overheads or to supplying aid which is not mostly in demand. We are small and experienced in the field so we can provide efficient and effective aid where most needed!
Our Aim
Helping to provide orphanages in developing countries in their basic needs such as:
• Safe housing
• Clean water
• Building of classrooms
• Physical activities such as play and sports
• Volunteer placements
The principles of our foundation:
• Our main goal is to improve the physical and emotional well-being for children in need
• We provide physical aid and supply mainly building facilities on location
• We seek minimal overhead costs and strive for a maximum return on every coin donated for the intended goal of the project
Who We Are
Kids at Play is a foundation that focuses on improving children’s life and prosperity in developing countries. “The original aim was to build playgrounds and sport fields at orphanages, but soon we found out that often there was a greater need for necessities like clean drinking water or dry beds to sleep in.”
The Kids at Play foundation is an independent foundation based in the Netherlands, founded in 2005 by Marig Schaap, Bernhard Los, Willem-Joost Meijer and Luke Vos. Originally named the Rwandaspeelt (Rwanda plays) foundation, which later changed its name to the more generic Kids at Play foundation.
