We came back to Familia Feliz. This time to build dormitories, upgrade their home, and add a little extra joy with a brand new playground.
Familia Feliz: a home worth coming back to build
After building a water well at Familia Feliz in 2014 and witnessing the impact it had during the devastating regional floods, the bond between Kids at Play and this orphanage in Rurrenabaque ran deep. The children who call this place home are orphaned, abandoned, neglected or abused. Familia Feliz gives them love, stability, and a real chance at the future.
By late 2017 the orphanage had grown. More children needed shelter, and the existing dormitories were overcrowded and in poor condition. Kids at Play returned to give Familia Feliz the upgrade it deserved: new dormitories, better roofs, termite treatment, and for the children, a proper playground.
Two dormitories, new roofs, termite treatment, and a playground
With generous donations received, Kids at Play completed the construction of two new dormitories and upgraded the existing ones. We added new roofing to keep the children dry through the rainy season, carried out termite treatment across the structure, and as a bonus built a playground that brought immediate joy and playfulness to the orphanage grounds.
A home fully transformed
Generosity made it happen.
Generous donations from our community and the proceeds from the Kids at Play charity run made the entire project possible, including the surprise bonus of a playground.
Familia Feliz orphanage
Familia Feliz (Happy Family) in Rurrenabaque has been Kids at Play’s partner across two projects now. Their mission is simple: give orphaned and abandoned children a safe, loving family environment where they can grow and realise their full potential. This return visit deepened a partnership built on trust.
Building before the rains came
Rurrenabaque sits deep in the Bolivian Amazon, where the rainy season is not just wet but relentless. Getting construction completed and roofing secured before the rains arrived was a real race against the clock. The termite damage we found on arrival was more extensive than expected, adding work that had not been planned. The team adapted, prioritised, and finished. The children were dry when the rains came.
